Call for Papers: Ayodhya's Archaeology, History and Culture: The Journey from Past to Present

Theme: Ayodhya, a city rich in history and religious significance, holds a special place in the hearts of millions worldwide. Its importance lies in its connection to the epic Ramayana, being both the birthplace of Lord Rama and a site linked with other Indic spiritual traditions. This call for papers aims to gather different perspectives on Ayodhya's archaeology, history, and culture to understand its evolution over time. Scholars, historians, archaeologists, and enthusiasts have been drawn to Ayodhya for centuries, and this initiative seeks to explore its multifaceted nature from the past to the present.

Scope: We invite Ph.D. scholars from Social Sciences and Humanities to contribute to this journal issue, exploring the multifaceted aspects of Ayodhya's archaeology, history, and culture utilizing the Indicism framework. The papers can delve into a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  1. Archaeological Excavations and Discoveries: Explore the findings of archaeological excavations in and around Ayodhya, shedding light on the ancient civilizations and cultures that thrived in the region.
  2. Literary Significance: Analyze Ayodhya's religious significance in various Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, and Indic spiritual traditions, texts, and scriptures, emphasizing its role in shaping India's cultural, ritual, and spiritual identity.
  3. Historical Evolution: Trace the historical development of Ayodhya as a city and the importance of its location and geography, its prominence during different periods, from classical, colonial, and post-independence.
  4. Socio-Cultural Traditions: Investigate the rich socio-cultural traditions and practices unique to Ayodhya, including festivals, rituals, art, and temple architecture.
  5. Ayodhya in Literature and Theater: Examine how Ayodhya has been portrayed in literature, poetry, drama, music, painting, and other forms of art across different periods.
  6. Contemporary developments in Ayodhya: Examine the influence of evolving legal, social, cultural, and ecological conservation aspects in the region.  
  7. Tourism and Heritage Conservation: Evaluate the challenges and opportunities related to tourism in Ayodhya and its impact on preserving its historical and cultural heritage.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Originality: All submissions must be original works and should not have been published elsewhere.
  • Length: Manuscripts should be between 5,000 to 8,000 words, excluding references.
  • Formatting: Papers must follow the APA style guidelines.
  • Language: Submissions must be in English.
  • Author Information: Include a brief bio and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s).
